Good decoration, which is in balance with the form, is about choices, planning, experimenting and having fun! Sally encourages experimentation and exploration of surface through texture, carving, colour and gilding. Students will have the opportunity to learn and practice different ways to embellish the surface of their projects with rotary hand tools, texturing with wood burners, colouring with acrylic paints and further embellishments with gold and metal leaf. Sally will explain easy ways to understand form and proportion and how incorporating decoration into your work can complement and enhance any project. Throughout the week there will be plenty of early morning and early afternoon sessions where Sally will share particular techniques, leaving plenty of time for students to practice what they have learned and explore their own ideas and designs. Students are encouraged to bring found objects, such as pictures or drawings, anything that will contribute to making this class more stimulating. Students can chose to bring their own pieces to decorate or turn simple wood forms for decorating.
