From a simple table leg to an entire piece of furniture, the design starts with the form. Once the form is designed, the next step is to decide what materials to use and how to make the piece. This exciting class will expand students’ vision and design opportunities by exploring various fabrication techniques and materials. Scott will help students decide whether a piece should be stack laminated, steam bent, veneered, steel reinforced, hollow formed, or carved from solid wood, to name just a few. This class will take a single concept and explore various ways to look at and construct the same piece to yield different results. It is intended to open the possibilities and expand the horizons as well as introduce students to new and different materials.
