This two-day course is designed for anyone who is wanting to push their turning away from the norm, to push their imagination and creativity and to have fun along the way. Students will be encouraged to swap ideas, brainstorm together and collaborate with each other to produce exciting unique pieces. The emphasis will be on thinking freely outside the bowl and trying new turning techniques and decorations. Hidden within the course are all the fundamentals of turning and tool use including the use of the skew chisel, bowl, roughing and spindle gouge plus a variety finishing techniques. The student will learn where to start and how to build with multiple piece turnings, from robots and Nutcracker soldiers to spartan warriors; the only limitation will be your imagination. Even though Colwin will have many examples and ideas, students are encouraged to come with an idea they want to take inspiration from, draw, photograph.
