This two day class will give participants a basic understanding of the double bevel cutting style of marquetry with the aim of creating a headstock design for their next instrument project. Students will start with a simple design that contains the basic kinds of cuts. A drawing lesson will provide methods to be more confident in your drawing skills. The majority of the class time will be spent with students working on their own designs with James providing one-on-one guidance in the design and execution. Demonstrations will be given throughout the two days including different ways to handle, cut, and manipulate wood veneer for use in marquetry. Also James will discuss how to glue the finished design to an instrument’s headstock, sand, and prepare for further embellishment and/or finish.
