Cracked Ice Parquetry Tabletop with Tim Coleman July 16 - 17, 2022

about this workshop

Preceding Tim’s weeklong Creative Embellishments class, this focused workshop has students creating a parquet veneer tabletop using the Cracked Ice pattern. This versatile pattern is seen widely in Chinese design and is a great way to learn parquet veneer techniques. Tim will begin by showing examples of the pattern in his own work and teach students strategies for creating their own patterns. Students will work with thick veneer provided by Tim and each will lay out and construct their own cracked ice pattern. Students will have their panels in the veneer press by the end of the first day so that they are ready for scraping, sanding and edge banding the next. Students will leave with a completed tabletop which they can take through the finishing process at home.
