This workshop will focus on techniques used in the Illusions in Wood body of works that Donna creates. Students will use wood burning tips and rotary powered tools to create textures and patterns on their woodturnings. Milk paint, gesso and acrylic paints will complete the illusion, deceptively transforming the pieces into pottery, ceramics, cloisonné, glass or hammered metal. Students will spend the first day learning and turning the forms that will be decorated. Each successive morning Donna will demonstrate several patterns and colors on the turned forms, and students will spend the remainder of the day hands-on applying their choice of patterns to their forms. The focus of the workshop is not on making a completed piece, but learning several different techniques students can continue to use on their turnings (or flat work) later in their own shops. Prior turning skills are helpful, but not required. All levels of experience welcome.
