Turning Small Lidded Boxes with Seri Robinson July 30-31, 2022
Lidded boxes are a fun, relatively easy project that quickly builds turning skills. This project-based class will cover basic lidded box shapes, friction fit lids and simple finial accents. Students will learn the basic mechanics of turning lidded boxes, both flat bottomed and curved. Skills taught will include end grain hollowing, skew chisel shaping, and making friction-fit lids. All students should complete at least one ring box and one Easter egg and finial top by the end of class, although more seasoned turners will likely finish quite a few more. A range of wood is available, from basic maple to figured woods and spalted woods, to challenge even the most veteran turner.
