Turning a Table Lamp with Willard Lerums August 6-7, 2022
Every woodworking book and high school shop class has a lamp project, but how many of those go through a hands-on step-by-step process that reinforces proper turning techniques, chucking methods, drilling on the lathe, and much more? In this class students will first turn their spindle, or long grain, piece that will attach to their base. This will be drilled approximately 15” for wires to be passed through. Subsequently, students will be introduced to two chucking methods in order to turn their face grain base piece. Students will join these parts together with a proper fitting mortise and tenon. There will be a discussion on the techniques for replication and finishing. By the end of the weekend students will have assembled and finished a functioning turning project.
