Spot Repair & Touch-Up with Mitch Kohanek May 14-15, 2022

“Spot repair” is a term used for repairing minor damages such as nicks, dents, and scratches in the wood and/or its coatings. It is also helpful for filling holes drilled in the wrong place or using a variety of fillers for small pieces of veneer that are missing. Larger repairs such as crushed corners and areas of wood where your favorite pet chewed on the chair leg will be introduced. Color matching is a critical component of the repair once the damaged area has been filled. Time will be spent learning how to create the color needed for the repair. “In-painting” (graining) is needed to recreate the grain pattern that will be missing once the damaged area has been filled. Water rings, heat damage and a host of other types of damages will be discussed. Repairs will be performed on wood panels that have been finished with lacquer. Students should purchase or bring their own spot repair kit. (Spot repair kits could cost as much as $340.00, but will pay for themselves with your first repair.)

A special note about our photos:

We have taken HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of photos over the years of our students, instructors, and staff — during classes, after classes, and at various gatherings. Throughout this brochure and on our website, you will see many photos that were taken prior to the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. Images of people without masks or not practicing social distancing were taken before the pandemic and before the safety practices were implemented. Please rest assured, we follow all of the safety precautions and guidelines mandated by our local and state health officials. Community means everything to us —we aim to provide a safe environment for all who teach and learn at MASW. If you have any questions or concerns regarding our practices, or would like more detailed information about the school’s health and safety guidelines, please do not hesitate to call or email us!
