Make Your Own Metal Spinning Tools with Lynne Hull May 14-15, 2022

In this two-day class students will have the opportunity to create their own spinning tools to use in the spinning class following this workshop, as well as continuing working at home with the new skills learned in the class. Students will focus on making three tools: a forming tool to shape metal, a burnishing tool for smoothing the metal and a cutting tool to trim the metal when completed. Lynne will demonstrate how to hot forge the steel blanks and then grinding them to final completion. Once the steel tool is made, students will then turn their handles out of wood and use copper tubing as a ferrell for holding the tool in place. The cutting tool will have a high-speed steel cutter that will be grinded to the correct shape for cutting metal then set into the steel pipe handle. At the end of this this workshop, students will be ready to use these new tools with confidence and pride. There is nothing better than making your own tools with your own flair and style.
