Make & Carve a Canoe Paddle with David Franklin September 17-18, 2022
In this weekend workshop students will make a full-sized canoe paddle from a medium hardwood board approx. 5’ in length and 8” wide. There will be an option to pick one of two different styles of traditional Northwest Coast Style paddles. An experienced carver might be able to make two. (If you are ambitious bring enough material for two.) David will discuss the types of traditional paddles and the differences in the designs. Students will use the bandsaw to cut them out and hand and power tools to shape and refine them. Demonstrations will be given on ways to embellish the paddles. Students will have a chance to design their own embellishments and start the carving process before the end of the weekend.
