Intro to Woodworking: Making a Cherry Lamp Table with Jerry C. Forshee May 21-22, 2022

If you have desired to build beautiful handcrafted solid wood furniture but did not know what to do or where to go to get started, then this class is for you! Each student will construct and take home a fully assembled beautiful cherry lamp table in the Shaker style. Students will learn how a tree grows, how the different wood grains are formed and where they are best used in furniture parts. During this two-day course students will have an opportunity to learn how to mill rough hewn lumber, layout the joinery, cut mortise and tenon joints, align the orientation of the grain for strength and aesthetics, hand tool methods, ways to cut tapered table legs, and the best ways to assembly and glue-up the table. Techniques for attaching table tops will be discussed and demonstrated. Each student will receive a free CD containing a PowerPoint slide show of all class instructions and demonstrations. Each student will be given a class commemorative custom hardwood clipboard which can be used during the class to organize notes and course handouts.
