Decorative Turned Boxes with Metal Clay Embellishments with Jennifer Shirley June 27-July 1, 2022

Are you ready to add something completely different and beautiful to your woodturnings? In this class Jennifer will take the craft of turning small decorative lidded boxes and break it down into several easy to understand steps. By the end of the week, students will have turned several beautiful boxes. Jennifer will start the week with an introduction to PMC and the several ways to embellish and decorate their turnings by adding PMC. What is PMC? Precious Metal Clay is an amazing clay medium that is pure metal powders mixed with a clay binder. Gold, silver, bronze, brass and copper are all available in Precious Metal Clay medium. It can be rolled, molded, carved, shaped and stamped with a wide variety of tools or your bare hands. After firing in a kiln or by a handheld torch, the binder burns away and what remains is the solid metal.

In this class students will be using Copper Metal Clay. Participants will learn how to form, shape, stamp and fire copper clay, then add it to their small decorative boxes. Students should expect to make three to four completed boxes. There will be a lot of information covered in this class so familiarity with woodturning and the use and sharpening of turning tools will be very helpful.
