A New Video…

Today, I’d like to direct folks to the new video we just added to the site.

If you’ve ever wondered how the professionals apply a finish, here’s your chance to watch nationally recognized finishing expert, Jeff Jewitt, show us how he prefers to apply a wipe-on polyurethane finish.

I won’t spoil the fun by revealing his method of choice, I’ll only say that his applicator really really suprised me.

One of the greatest pleasures I’ve experience in 12 years at MASW has been the chance to observe the variety of different methods the experts use for accomplishing any given woodworking task. To be guided on how to choose amongst all those choices and pick the best technique for the given situation, is something that you can only get by interacting with a variety of different woodworkers. Luckily for me, MASW is perfect for that!

Anyway, we’d love to hear how you like this video – in part, because it guides how I edit and distribute the tons of video I still have from last year’s classes. Please feel free to leave us a comment in the space below. We’d love to hear what you are thinking…

If you’ve enjoyed this video then you may want to check out Jeff’s Hands-On Finishing class this September. There are still a few openings left (as of 8am, 2/1/10). To learn more about Jeff’s class, click on the following link…

Hands-On Finishing with Jeff Jewitt – Sept. 13-17, 2010

Well, that’s it for today. Have a safe time in the shop, everybody!

I was suprised to find Jeff Jewitt applying Poly exactly how I've been doing it since my first project, right down to the folded paper towel (I use the white shop towels in the the box, as they have less lint). So many on the internet say they'd put their project in the woodstove before using poly, I was suprised to see Jeff using it at all. I'm signed up for his class in the fall, now I can't wait!!!

I agree Bill. Part of the reason I decided to shoot that particular demonstration was that I wasn't expecting Poly either (I also had never dreamed of using paper towel). Jeff did a great job making the point that if durability is your first priority - then poly is for you. It certainly did a great job on the table top in the video...

What great strides you have made in the website with the videos, blogs etc. They are good incentives for visiting the sites. Looking forward to joinery in late March

Thanks David! I'm glad folks are enjoying viewing the new content almost as much as I'm enjoying bringing it to you. Your feedback helps support even more efforts in that direction. Be looking soon as we also move to branch out into the social networking space....

I'm looking forward to Marc's joinery class in March. We'll be releasing a number of short demos from the Joinery class within a week or so of the actual class finishing up. It's fun to review and edit the footage from last season, but it should be a blast to be able to keep people up to date with the fun in near real time. It won't be a replacement for being here, but we hope it will help grow the next crop of woodworkers as well as keep all our alumni well informed.

    See you soon...

Thanks for the encouragement, Kenny. I'm really excited about what's to come but it's still good to know that others are enjoying the improvements. Don't be shy about leaving any suggestions or improvements you'd like to see in the future, either. I'll see you in March - only 8 weeks away. Yikes....
