California architects Charles & Henry Greene are renowned designers of "ultimate bungalows" in the early 20th century, producing some of the finest homes and furniture ever made. Their talents and attention to detail extended to even the most mundane items, such as this reproduction of the medicine cabinet from the chauffeur's rest room in the garage at the Gamble House. Join Bob, author of Shop Drawings for Greene & Greene Furniture and former executive editor of Popular Woodworking Magazine and make your own reproduction of this wall-hung cabinet from the solid wood of your choice. It is practical when used for its original purpose and attractive enough to go anywhere in your home. With its distinctively shaped sides and beautiful proportions, this is a great introduction to the world of Greene & Greene and Arts & Crafts period design, solid wood case construction and details. Students will learn how to build and hang a mortise and tenon frame and panel door as well as build a sturdy case from solid wood. Inside the case are two adjustable shelves and a solid wood shiplapped back. Various methods for making joinery with hand and power tools will be covered as well as methods for detailing edges in Greene & Greene furniture.
