Cost: $275

This class will be two classes rolled into one that will explore both how to maintain and make unique fixtures for your equipment. Doug will discuss machines--how to tune and set them up as well as how to be safe at each one. Zane will show how to make as many as 10 different jigs and fixtures, including a cope and stile fixture, a cross-cut tray, fluted jamb fixture, and an elliptical fixture, to name a few. Each day the class will be broken into two sessions with one group working on machines and the other group discussing fixtures. By Sunday, everyone will be exposed to the methods of work that Doug and Zane have learned after years of working together. This is a class that everyone, regardless of skill level, should attend.

MACHINE MAINTENANCE: Have you ever tuned up your table saw, band saw, or chop saw? Have you ever tried to change the knives on your joiner or planer? What's the best way to lubricate all those metal parts and keep your tables smooth and slick? What causes snipe, kickback, binding, and misalignments? How do you know what type of blades or cutters to use, and why? Unfortunately, not all the machines and tools we purchase today are ready to use right from the box. They need to be tuned up. This course will provide answers to your questions.

JIGS AND FIXTURES: If you make furniture or cabinets on a regular basis, I'll bet that you have a few homemade jigs and fixtures hanging around. Even after the job is long over, the fixtures you made are proudly displayed on the wall and will probably never be used again--we just love to look at them. A well-designed fixture will provide more control, precision, and versatility when using your tools. If you are jigless, you need this class.

Key Points:

See how to set up your table saw in detail
Planer and jointer tune ups demonstrated
Learn band saw adjustments for perfect cuts
See lots of creative jigs and fixtures being used
Drawings will be given out on most of the fixtures demonstrated
Photos and tracings are welcome

There is a $45 annual registration fee that will be added to your the total amount of the class if this is the first class you are registering for this season.
