This two day class is an adjunct to the Mastermyr Viking Tool Chest class and will teach you the basic skills needed to make a pair of authentic strap hinges for you Viking Tool Chest but can apply to any hinge hardware. Forging hot iron is an ancient skill which is interesting, useful and exciting. We will cover basic coal forge operation, iron metallurgy and various blacksmithing techniques including; upsetting, drawing out, chamfering and hot punching. You will also learn to make the traditional clinch nails used to attach the hinges to the chest.
This class affords you the opportunity to experience the forging of hot iron and the shaping of it into a useful mechanical object with the same techniques used 1,000 years ago on the original tool chest. By taking both classes you will have, by the end, not only a complete authentic tool chest but an understanding of the tools and techniques used in the past to create objects of usefulness and beauty. This class is open to all with a desire to learn and a willingness to work in the ways of our forefathers

There is a $45 annual registration fee that will be added to your the total amount of the class if this is the first class you are registering for this season.
