David recalls once selling a client a very expensive table, sight unseen, in seconds flat. David had walked in and handed his client a Victorian style stereoscope with a 3D image of the contemporary table design. The client felt as if he had stepped into a room with the table itself, instantly rendering the design perfectly clear and emotionally compelling. These images, and the simplicity of creating them for your business or just for fun, will knock your socks off.

In this seminar you will build & finish your own Holmes-type stereoscope. This is the type of wooden stereoscope once widely used to view the stereo cards found in many antique stores. You'll be able to view antique cards or put together your own full-color stereo images using this same format. You will learn the principles of stereo photography, including how to photograph and mount 3D-stereo image pairs of your own woodwork or of any still photography you might wish to view in stereo. Any standard film camera or digital camera can be used. For those interested, David will also demonstrate and discuss how to use this stereoscope and image formatting to produce compelling, virtual reality, stereographic images from most 3D design software programs. This class does not require advanced woodworking skills or anything more than a point and shoot camera. Please note that although viewing stereographic images is easy (nothing like those Magic Eye pictures), about 5% of the population is not able to view pictures in stereo.

Key Points:

Build a high-quality wood stereoscope
Understand the principles of stereo photography
Photograph an object or scene in stereo using a normal digital camera or tablet
Make a stereograph (stereo viewing card) from the resulting photographs
Image editing software to format your stereo cards
Making and viewing stereo images on a digital tablet
Hyper-stereo and Hypo-stereo effects (depth effects impossible to the naked eye)
