In this class parent-child teams will collaborate on a whimsical wind machine project. This fun weekend is designed to provide an opportunity for family members to share a unique hands-on teamwork experience in a time-honored American craft genre. If you are looking for the chance to build a functional piece of yard art and a family memory this class is your chance. John will discuss how he designed the piece and give a brief overview of whirligigs' common features and design considerations. A basic introduction to woodworking methods will be covered. You will walk through steps of production, creating a functioning whirligig primarily using band saw, scroll saw, and drill press operations as well as sanding and painting all designed to build confidence and skill. Patterns and materials will be provided. John will assist each team in making a successful whirligig.
