Come and spend a week with Paul Schuerch, one of the world's premier veneer experts. If you have attended veneering classes in the past or currently work with veneer, you will not want to miss this informative class.
Paul starts with the history of veneer and how it has developed to what it is today. Raw veneer, making your own, handling, flattening, and buying are discussed and there will be hands-on practice sessions in book, slip, reverse, diamond, and four-way matching. There are demonstrations on starbursts, border work, parquet and edge work. This class not only teaches traditional veneering techniques but also covers veneer cutting, joining, finishing, and assembly techniques done in today's shop setting. Choosing substrates and glues and determining how to prepare and press up veneer are all demonstrated. Paul specializes in using and mixing other mediums in his work, such as stone and metal; and if time permits, he will show us some of the various techniques he uses for marquetry and surface decoration.
