Masters Fellowship Turning

Adding inlay to your woodworking project can elevate your work from good to spectacular. This course explores inlay techniques as applied to woodturning and flatwork and is structured for all levels in both crafts. Students will start with inlaying flat; musical grade figured maple (provided) using the scroll saw and special power sanding techniques. Students will then move on to shallow, simple woodturnings where translucent designs will be created. Creating complex imagery will be last inlay topic. Use of dyes, airbrushing, sealers, and finishes are will be discussed throughout the week. Depending on each student's interests and skill levels, any of the flatwork or woodturning project areas can be pursued more extensively at any time during the course following their introduction. For example if you are only interested in flatwork and not woodturning, then flatwork can be all of your projects during the course. If you are a woodturner inlaying on flat work will provide an important introduction and thereafter your projects can be on woodturnings exclusively. Or students can work in both in flatwork and woodturning and maybe even combine them.
