Segmented Turning: Where Precision Partners With Turned Elegance with Malcolm Tibbetts
Dates: 9/8 - 9/12
Segmented woodturnings have a high degree of "How'd he do that?" This class is designed for both accomplished segmenters, as well as beginners. Students will be guided in creating their own designs. All students will not be doing the same type of vessel; instead they will be encouraged to attempt a variety of techniques. Malcolm will teach much more than just the basics of this fascinating art form. Topics will include complex feature-ring construction, portholes, segmented spheres, ribbons, and advanced segmented sculpture. Class time will include of a blend of Power Point presentations, hands-on demonstrations, and supervised project building. At first glance, segmented woodturning can be quite intimidating, but once you know and understand the process, it can become a very rewarding activity.

- A variety of glue clamping techniques
- Ring-stacking techniques
- "Feature-ring" building techniques
- Create more complex assemblies, such as ribbons and tubes
- Techniques to speed the construction process
There is a $45 annual registration fee that will be added to your the total amount of the class if this is the first class you are registering for this season.
