Dates: 9/15 - 9/19
Tool List: Click here for tool list
In this workshop, students delve into the world of curved and contoured-surface woodworking by building a graceful and functional writing desk. The project is challenging yet enjoyable, and introduces students to many essential woodworking skills. Some of the techniques explored include basic panel veneering, pattern routing of matching curves, and shaping curved components using band saw and bent laminating techniques. Joinery skills include hand dovetailing of curved drawer fronts, sliding dovetails, mortise and tenon joints and floating tenon joints. Students draw upon the strengths of hand and power tool skills, as both are used extensively in this workshop. Each student is furnished a cut list so that some of the materials can be milled before arriving, to ensure that valuable class time is spent learning and implementing new skills and not just milling lumber. This workshop will take your woodworking to the next level. What's more, you'll have a finely crafted writing desk to cherish and admire for years to come.
