Dates: 6/3/2013 - 6/7/2013
Tool List: Click here for tool list
This is a five-day, hands-on, finishing workshop that will help you achieve that beautiful finish you've been looking to create. A variety of finishing systems will be introduced to you. Students spend most of this class in the finish shop and not in the classroom. Mitch shows applications for using stains, dyes, toners, and glazing and teaches the basics of color matching. Students will practice many techniques: closing the pores, using wood fillers, French polishing with shellac, brushing, padding, spraying techniques, using HVLP, gravity feed and pressure pots for all finishes. Also included will be rub out techniques for adjusting the sheen of the finish and how to take care of it. Problem solving and fixing finishing defects such as blotching, orange peel, brush marks, and fish eye are covered along with the way to achieve the ultimate finish. By the end of the week, you will not only learn how to use finishing material but will also gain the understanding of what you are using and why it works. Anyone who works with wood and enjoys its beauty will benefit from this class.
