Dates: 8/18 - 8/29

This workshop is intended for those who have a familiarity with woodworking tools and machinery and is a required class for those working on their MASW Masters program. It is an opportunity to advance technical knowledge by experimenting with forms and woodworking processes that may be new to you. Vacuum forming, strip laminating, hot pipe bending, steam bending, and jig construction to accommodate irregular shapes will be demonstrated. There will be discussions on hand tools, machine tools, wood selection, joinery, shaping, surface preparation and finishing.
Michael will give an overview of the design process by employing both traditional woodworking techniques and processes that are adapted from other industries, such as aircraft production. Drawing and model making are very important parts of the fabrication process. Students will be encouraged to try each of the techniques by designing and making a piece of furniture with his one-on-one guidance. We are very fortunate to have Michael as part of our two-week apprenticeship program. Make sure that you sign up early because this class will be one of the first to sell out.
